Salix Homes can support you with getting online offering free training courses to help improve your ICT skills, as well as signposting you to free internet points across Salford.

Why go online?

• The World Wide Web has over 2.4 billion users worldwide! There is a reason that so many people are using the internet, whether from a laptop, tablet or smart phone, as it has a number of great benefits
• Information at your fingertips – There is a wealth of great facts and figures on the net, and being able to get online means you can help the kids with their homework!
• Applying for jobs – 7 million jobs are put online each year and 90% of all employment opportunities require basic ICT skills
• Claiming benefits – To apply for jobs via Universal Job Match you need to have an email address; and it’s expected that you will make your Universal Credit online – there will be no paper form
• Staying in touch – The internet can be a great way of keeping in touch with friends and family; home and abroad using online tools like facebook and skype plus meeting new people who share the same interests
• Get involved – Local events are often promoted online so it’s a great way of finding out what’s happening in your local community. Plus a great way to keep the kids busy in school holidays!
• Save money – From comparing household insurance online, to grabbing a bargain on eBay, using the internet can help you save money. Households can save around £560 a year from shopping and paying bills online!

Terrified of tech or not interested in the net? We can show you how to use the internet and brush up on your basic ICT skills.

We’ve teamed up with Inspiring Communities to run Connected Customers computer courses across all our neighbourhoods in central Salford and Beechfarm in Swinton in the new year. The 10-week courses will teach essential IT skills as well as tips and training on job searches, CV writing and interview techniques.
