Residents of Hamilton Gardens join forces to combat fly-tipping

Residents from Hamilton Gardens in Kersal have joined forces with Salix Homes to tackle fly-tipping and tidy up their community.

The area has seen an increase in rubbish being dumped on the streets recently, prompting residents to call for a community clean-up.

Salix Homes’ Neighbourhood Teams organised a skip day and clean-up on Wednesday, January 17 and worked together with residents to help clear the neighbourhood of rubbish.

By the end of the day, two skips had been filled with debris including fly-tipped furniture and discarded Christmas decorations.

Mick Walsh, Salix Homes’ neighbourhood manager for the area, said: “It was great to see people getting stuck in and taking pride in their community, even on a wet and blustery day. Fly-tipping is unacceptable behaviour that can impact the wellbeing of communities, and is not something we as an organisation tolerate.”

The clean-up was funded thanks to a £500 cash boost from Salix Homes’ Springboard scheme, which provides grants to local projects and initiatives that improve the environment, boost community spirit, promote health and wellbeing or reduce isolation.

Hamilton Gardens is not the only area to have benefited from community clean-up initiatives, with skip days taking place across Salford’s various neighbourhoods in recent months. To find out more about how to apply for a Springboard grant, go to: https://www.salixhomes.org/springboard
