Salford teens show the spirit of Salford

They’re young, they’re ambitious and brimming with ideas for how to make Salford a better place – and now they’re in line to scoop a prestigious community award.

Salix Homes youth panel – Boost4Youth have been named as finalists in the Best Community Safety Project in the Spirit of Salford Community Awards.

The group, which is made up of local teenagers, have been recognised for their efforts to develop a youth engagement project in Salford’s communities that offers support, opportunities and diversionary activities for young people aged 11-17 years.

Salix Homes set up Boost4Youth last year to join the ranks and become the voice of young people in our communities.

Boost4Youth member Denise Robalo,15, said: “It’s such a huge surprise and honour to be nominated for a Spirit of Salford Award, and we are all so excited about this recognition.

“We’ve all worked really hard to make positive changes in the community, and it feels like we’re making steps towards making a real difference.”

Last year Boost4Youth organised a fun day at Ordsall Park for 150 young people and are also managing a budget of £20,000 to provide grants to young people as part of our Springboard youth grant programme.

Lee Sugden, our chief executive, said: “Our Boost4Youth panel are young, energetic and bursting with ideas for how we can make Salford a better place, so we are delighted to see their efforts recognised in the Spirit of Salford Community Awards, and we’re keeping everything crossed for a win.”

The winners of the Spirit of Salford Awards will be announced thisThursday, March 14 at an awards ceremony at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles.
