Salix Homes spreads Christmas cheer to families in need

Kind-hearted housing workers have been spreading festive cheer to families in need this Christmas.

Staff at Salix Homes have collected a sleigh-load of toys and gifts for children and their families experiencing hardship over the festive period.

They may be families fleeing domestic violence, threatened with homelessness or experiencing extreme poverty and might otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.

Staff have collected enough toys and gifts to donate to more than 70 families in Salford and Trafford, which are being distributed by Salford’s Supported Tenancies Service.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “While many of us look forward to Christmas, for others it can be an extremely difficult and lonely time.

“We support families in crisis every day of the year, but it’s always that bit more difficult at Christmas time, particularly when there are children involved.

“It’s wonderful to see our staff supporting our gift appeal and helping to spread some festive cheer to local families in crisis and we hope our donation will go some way to putting a smile on children’s faces this Christmas.”

Salix Homes staff have also raised more than £800 with a fundraising charity raffle, which will be split between Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s Homelessness Fund and the Salford Ceremonial Mayor Peter Connor’s Charity Appeal which raises money for a range of local causes across the city.

Salford’s Ceremonial Mayor Peter Connor said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Salix Homes for their generosity. I’ve chosen a range of charities to benefit young and old across Salford and the support from Salix Homes means local people will benefit.”
