Salix Homes staff spread festive cheer among families facing homelessness

Salix Homesstaff have collected a mountain of toys and gifts to spread some festive cheer among families in need this Christmas.

Our employees have been collecting toys, presents, selection boxes and Christmas decorations for Salford families experiencing hardship.

Every Christmas, Salford’s Supported Tenancies Service, which is managed by Salix Homes, supports dozens of families into temporary accommodation who have found themselves facing homelessness.

Many of the affected families have fled domestic violence and are often forced to leave their homes with little or no belongings.

Mike Wright, head of housing options at Salix Homes, said: “At any one time, our Supported Tenancies Team helps more than 60 local families who find themselves facing homelessness, often having escaped domestic violence with little more than the clothes they stand up in.

“It’s difficult for these families at any time of year, but it’s particularly heart-wrenching at Christmas when you know the children face waking in an unfamiliar environment on Christmas morning with no presents or festive celebrations.

“Thanks to all our employees we now have a plentiful supply of toys, gifts and treats which will hopefully bring a smile to the face of children who would otherwise be facing a very bleak Christmas.”

All the gifts collected will be shared out among Salford families who are placed into temporary accommodation over the festive period.
