Salix Homes staff support homeless charity

Staff at Salix Homes have donned their novelty knitwear to raise funds for a homeless charity.

Our employees wore their Christmas jumpers and organised a raffle to raise money for Lifeshare, which helps vulnerable and homeless people in Manchester and Salford.

The festive fundraising feat raised £265 for Lifeshare’s Christmas Project, which provides a drop-in service during the festive period where people in need can stop by and get a hot meal, warm clothing and medical care.

William McKay, customer support officer at Salix Homes, has been volunteering at the centre on Dantzic Street, Ancoats, for four years and inspired his colleagues to support the project and spread some festive cheer with their Christmas jumpers.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “Lifeshare is a fantastic charity which provides a lifeline for many homeless people in Manchester and Salford and we are very proud to support it.
While Christmas is a happy time for many, for others it can be a time of loneliness and hardship, but thanks to charities like Lifeshare and volunteers like William, some of the most vulnerable people in our city will not be alone this Christmas.

“It was great to see so many members of staff taking part and wearing their Christmas jumpers. It certainly brought a smile to people’s faces here at Salix Homes and we hope our donation will go some way towards supporting people facing homelessness this Christmas.

William, who will be volunteering at the centre on Christmas Day, said: “This will be my fourth Christmas Day volunteering with Lifeshare and every year it’s always an uplifting experience.
We usually have around 100 people through the door from all walks of life on Christmas Day alone and we hand out clothing and bedding, serve up a hot meal, play games and are just there if people want to talk.Whatever has happened to the person or whatever problems they have, no one should be alone on Christmas Day, so I’d like to thank all my colleagues at Salix Homes for their generosity and support in helping the city’s homeless this Christmas.”
