Time running out to vote for your community heroes

Time is running out to vote for your community heroes in Salford.

We have announced the finalists for our annual Salix Stars Awards, which recognise those who are making a difference in their community, but voting closes on Thursday, November 5.

For the first time ever, all the winners in each of the five award categories will be voted for by the public.

Among the finalists are Salford Veterans Breakfast Club, which provides a lifeline for ex-servicemen and women in the city; an eco-warrior who’s cleared two tonnes of rubbish from Salford’s parks and waterways; and an inspirational teenager who has battled meningitis and ME to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “The Salix Stars Awards are our way of recognising some of the fantastic work that ordinary people in Salford are doing to make this city and our communities so special.

“Every single one of our finalists have gone to extraordinary lengths to help others and while they are all worthy winners, we want the public to decide who should be crowned the Salix Stars of Salford.

“As we enter the last week of voting, we know it’s going to be very close in all the categories, so I’d urge the people of Salford to cast their vote now and choose their community heroes before it’s too late.”

The exciting categories for this year’s event, which is supported by lead sponsor A Connolly Ltd, include Aim High Star, Young Rising Star, Best Green Star, Shelagh Delaney Creativity Award and the Spirit of Salford Star.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at The Lowry, Salford Quays on Friday, November 27.
