Reminder: Do you need extra support to evacuate your building in an emergency?

New fire safety legislation helping to keep you safeFrom April 2026, all high-rise buildings must have Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs) as part of new fire safety legislation helping to keep you safe.

What is an RPEEP?
A personal plan for anyone who may need extra support to evacuate their building safely in an emergency as lifts cannot be used during a fire.

Who does this apply to?
Anyone who may find it harder to evacuate, including people with:

• Mobility issues
• Long-term health conditions or mental health needs
• Hearing or sight loss
• Medication that affects alertness or movement
• Alcohol or substance dependency
• Later stages of pregnancy
• Anything else that could affect how you respond in an emergency

You don’t have to wait
We’ll be contacting all customers who live in high-rise buildings to ask a few questions and discuss any support needed and make sure any information we hold is up to date.

We’ll also ask you to sign an Evacuation Statement to share with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, so they know how best to support you in an emergency. And we will check in with you every year to see if your circumstances have changed.

But you don’t have to wait to hear from us.

If you think you may need extra support to evacuate your building safely in an emergency, please get in touch today. We’re here to help make sure you have the right plan in place to keep you safe.
