Food banks and food pantries provide free or low-cost food for people on low incomes.

There are a number of food banks and food pantries available across Salford.

Salford Foodbank is a charity which provides emergency food parcels to people who are struggling.
It has several food centres across Salford where you can collect your food parcel, including:

  • Salford Loaves and Fishes
  • St Philips, Chapel Street
  • Swinton Gateway
  • Broughton Hub
  • St Andrews Church, Eccles
  • Mustard Tree in Eccles
  • Walkden Gateway

Everyone who visits the foodbank for emergency food, must have a valid foodbank voucher or voucher code.

These are available from more than 130 local referral agencies, including Salix Homes, children’s centres, schools, doctors’ surgeries and social services.

Lucies Pantry
Fitzwarren Street, Pendleton, M6 5RQ

Lucies Pantry is a social supermarket, run by the Emmaus charity. It provides low-cost food and household essentials for people on low incomes.

You have to sign-up to be a member to use the food pantry. Members pay £2.50 per week and can then purchase their weekly shopping to the value of around £20.

The pantry is open Monday to Friday from 9am – 3pm.

St James’ Lunch Club and Food Pantry
St James’ Church Community Room, Great Cheetham Street East, Broughton, M7 4UH

Whether you’re young, old, homeless, lonely or struggling with mental health, everyone is welcome at St James’ Lunch Club, which provides a free hot meal and a warm welcome to anyone who stops by.

The food pantry runs alongside the lunch club and provides 10 essential food items for £2.50.
It runs every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 11am and 1pm.

Family FoodFayre – Community Shop
St Thomas’ Church, Ford Lane, Salford, M6 6PE

This Community Shop aims to support people on low incomes with their weekly shop and reduce food waste, as most of the food items comes from surplus food from supermarkets.

Membership costs £5 per year and each shop costs £3, but you’ll be able to choose food items up to the value of £15.

Community Grocery
Victory Outreach Manchester, 19 Liverpool Street, Salford, M5 4LY

Community Grocery offers a range of food options fresh from local supermarkets. Members can come and shop for their family at a fraction of the cost of a supermarket, whilst helping save hundreds of tonnes of food being wasted each year.

But it’s not just about the food. In each store you’ll also find a range of free support on offer to members, such as job clubs, money management support, healthy cooking classes and much more.
