Salford swim club is making waves thanks to Springboard donation

Salford swimming club Uswim has received £1,200 in funding from Salix Homes’ Springboard Community Fund to support the promotion of its popular Greater Manchester Swim event at Salford Quays.

The funding will be used to help raise awareness of the iconic annual open water swim among local residents in Salford and the surrounding communities.

Uswim has been providing safe, supervised open water swimming across the North West for over 25 years. More than 250,000 swimmers have taken part in a wide range of the organisation’s sessions and events, enjoying the physical and mental health benefits that open water swimming offers while raising money for various charities.

The Greater Manchester Swim event offers a unique opportunity to dive in and experience open water swimming in one of the UK’s most distinctive urban settings. Salford Quays, which previously hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games and ITU International Salford Triathlons, continues to attract swimmers of all abilities, from beginners to experienced athletes.

Uswim is inviting people near its Salford and Cheshire venues to get involved, making it easy for anyone to boost their wellbeing or try something new in a supportive setting.

Open water swimming can seem a bit intimidating, but with Uswim’s trained team and strong safety measures in place, swimmers can feel confident and enjoy the experience.

Director of Uswim, Dave Quartermain said: “It’s brilliant to have received our grant from Salix Homes, which will help us draw local people’s attention to this iconic annual community sports event. Many people enter the Greater Manchester Swim to raise much-needed funds for local charities.”

Salix Homes’ Director of Communities, Warren Carlon adds: “We’re really pleased to support this fantastic open water swimming event and the positive impact it brings to our communities. Initiatives like this play an important role in improving people’s health and wellbeing, while also bringing people together for a great cause. I’d encourage anyone who’s thinking about it to sign up and give it a go.”

With the backing of Salix Homes, this year’s event is set to reach even more people, bringing together community, fitness and fundraising in the heart of Salford Quays.
