Who can apply for a Springboard community grant?
Anyone can apply for a Springboard grant, whether you’re an established community group, a charity, school, or just an individual with a great idea for a community project. You don’t need to be a Salix Homes tenant, just as long as your project will benefit the communities we work in.

Hoarding Awareness Week

National Hoarding Awareness Week logoThis week is National Hoarding Awareness Week, and at Salix Homes, we’re raising awareness of hoarding – a mental health condition that can affect people’s ability to live safely in their homes.

The national campaign runs from 12-16 May and aims to highlight hoarding disorder, a complex mental health condition that can severely impact a person’s wellbeing, relationships, and safety. The campaign highlights the importance of breaking down stigma, promoting empathy, and encouraging individuals to seek support without fear of judgement.

Last year, we introduced our new Customer Support service in response to a growing demand to better support our customers with complex needs. Our dedicated Customer Support Officers aim to provide practical, person-centred support for customers with a range of issues such as hoarding, mental health issues and difficulty managing their homes.

One of the first success stories for the service, includes one of our customers living with her adult daughter in a home that had become severely cluttered due to hoarding behaviours.

Local and Community History Month is here, and we’re taking a trip down memory lane!

A historical black and white photo of five young people, on a cobbled streetCheck out these fantastic pictures from Ordsall in the late 1960s and early 1970s, capturing the moments when old terraced houses were being pulled down as part of the slum clearance project.

These amazing photos were shared with us back in 2015 during our “Salford Bygones and New Beginnings” exhibition at Ordsall Hall, celebrating social housing in our city.

Taken by renowned photographer Laurie Asprey, who grew up in Ordsall, these rare black and white images show local children playing outside and the now-demolished streets, including Gertrude Street—nicknamed “tea leaf valley” by locals.

Salford has changed immensely over the years, and it will continue to evolve with future investments in homes and communities. Yet, the rich history and heritage of our streets remain a core part of Salford’s identity.

VE Day – 80th Anniversary

A living room decked out in Union Jack flagsThursday 8 March marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

The historic day marks the end of World War II in Europe, honouring the incredible service and sacrifice of those who fought bravely, as well as those who supported them from home.

There were celebrations across Salford and our very own Customer Shanice McLoughlin shared a picture with us of her decorated home. It looked great Shanice!
