Credit unions

Credit unions are financial organisations owned by their members. They use profits from lending money to improve services and reward members.

You can save what you want, when you want.

You will need to save regularly for 13 weeks before you can take out a loan with them.

A credit union can help if you have had difficulty opening an account with a bank or building society.

Why join a credit union?

  • get access to affordable loans once you've been saving for 13 weeks
  • loans can be repaid weekly, fortnightly or monthly
  • get access to smaller loans of less than £1,000, which many banks do not offer
  • no hidden charges and no early repayment fees
  • loan protection insurance at no extra cost
  • money saved within the credit union by it's members is used within the local community

It costs £3 to become a member of Salford Credit Union but if you are a Salix Homes tenant we may pay this for you.
