Protect your home this Christmas – and win an Amazon Echo Dot!
Christmas is a fun time, but it can also bring a few surprises. Things like lost keys, accidental damage or theft can happen when you least expect it – and replacing your things can be expensive. That’s why contents insurance is so helpful.
You can get contents insurance from just 73p a week, and if you ever need to make a claim, there’s no excess to pay. It helps protect the things that matter to you – like your TV, phone or your children’s presents.

Switching to Universal Credit: A message for working age people
If you’re working age and currently receiving legacy benefits, it’s important to know that you’ll need to switch to Universal Credit (UC) soon. Keep an eye out for a “Migration Notice” letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – this will let you know when to make the move.
Remember, you won’t be switched automatically, so make sure you apply for UC before the deadline to continue receiving support.

Join the fight against male suicide: Become a Manbassador this International Men’s Day
International Men’s Day is coming up on Wednesday 19 November – let’s take a moment to acknowledge an important issue that affects many men in our communities. Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 50* in the UK, and it’s time for us to come together to make a difference.
As a Manbassador, a business could play a vital role in promoting mental health awareness. We provide everything you need to get started, including:
• Free promotional materials
• Free training to help you have open conversations
• Publicity on Salix Homes channels
• Recognition for adding social value

Join the Salford Red Devils Foundation’s 16 week Health and Wellbeing programme
In our last newsletter we announced that the Salford Red Devils Foundation has become Salford’s first official Manbassador as part of the Salford Manbassadors scheme, which we launched on World Mental Health Day (10 October).
Salford Red Devils Foundation Manbassadors group sessions begin on Wednesday 5th November.
The Foundation will be delivering a 16-week health and wellbeing programme for local men, focusing on positive mental wellbeing, physical fitness and healthy eating.

Stay warm, stay safe
With just a few easy precautions, you can enjoy this winter in comfort, knowing you and your loved ones are protected.
Smoke alarms: Test them monthly. If you have any issues, call 0800 218 2000. Don’t forget to replace batteries.
Candle safety: Always supervise candles, use proper holders, and keep them away from anything flammable. Consider battery operated candles as a safer alternative.
Heaters: Avoid gas heaters, keep them clear of curtains and furniture, never dry clothes on them, and always unplug at night. Secure them to prevent tipping.
Electric blankets: Don’t use with hot water bottles, unplug them before sleeping (unless they have a thermostat), and replace them after 10 years. Avoid second hand blankets and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Christmas Lights: Choose safety marked lights, turn them off when you head out or at night, don’t overload sockets, and replace any damaged cables or bulbs.
Chargers: Don’t leave chargers plugged in unattended.

Let’s keep our hallways, stairwells, and exits clear of rubbish and belongings. Please use designated bins and report any blocked exits or overflowing bins at 0800 218 2000 or via email to buildingsafety@salixhomes.co.uk.

Awaab’s Law
Awaab’s Law came into effect on 27 October 2025. This important legislation requires all social housing landlords, including Salix Homes, to address serious problems in your home, such as damp, mould, and emergency hazards, quickly.
We’ve already changed how we work to make sure your home is safe and healthy. Check out how we’ve improved our services based on your feedback.

Reminder: Household Support Fund update
You can now apply for round seven (part two) of the Household Support Fund, until Tuesday 31 March 2026.
Salford residents who need financial support with the cost-of-living, specifically to cover cost for food, fuel and energy, regardless of benefit status can apply.
Residents who need support can apply directly for funding on Salford’s Household Support Fund webpage or call Salford’s Household Support Fund helpline on 0800 011 3998.
Confidential support for victims of crime and trauma
Victim Support give confidential support to people affected by crime and traumatic events.
If you’ve been affected by crime, there are a number of ways you can get support or information from them.

It’s now easier to report loan sharks
Stop Loan Sharks England recently launched a WhatsApp service to help people who loan sharks have targeted. You can now easily report illegal lending or get support through WhatsApp.
This new service is another option alongside their 24/7 helpline, email, website contact form, and Live Chat.
Available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. Just message 07700 102 773 and an officer will respond during those hours. Your messages are private, and the Stop Loan Sharks logo won’t show up on your screen.
