Are you struggling with debt?

You don’t need to be alone in your debt worries. We can offer you support, advice and help you to take positive action to tackle your debt problems.

First steps

The first thing to do is to work out exactly what your current situation is, how much money you owe and where the debt is from. This will help you feel more in control of your finances and give you a greater understanding of how to prioritise which debts to pay off first.

Priority debts aren’t necessarily the most expensive or the largest debts, but you must pay them off first, to save money and to help clear the rest of your debts off quicker.

Payment plan

If you have Credit cards, Store cards, Loans or other debt mounting up, you should get in contact with the organisation you owe money to and inform them that you are having problems, as they should be able to come up with a better payment plan for you. The worst thing you can do is to just ignore it.

Avoid loan sharks

Unlicensed lenders (Loan Sharks), charge extremely high rates of interest, typically under illegal conditions and should be reported at the first instance. Read our loan shark pages for more information.
