Duchy, Kersal and Charlestown

Kersal and Charlestown is a large, diverse neighbourhood in Central Salford with the River Irwell forming the border between the two.

Duchy is a relatively small estate at the south-western tip of Irwell Riverside, sitting directly on the East Lancashire Road (A580), opposite from Irlam o’ th’ Height. Duchy is also home to the Duchy Road Caravan site.

Shopping, Leisure & Community

The Height Library offers a number of community facilities. Duchy Pod, on Duchy Road is a community house that is host to bingo twice a week, a children’s club for ages 8-16yrs and other activities.

Transport

There are good connections with the A6, Salford Crescent railway station and a number of bus routes offering transport links throughout Salford, Manchester and beyond. You can plan your bus, train or tram journey with help from Transport for Greater Manchester.

Green space

Duchy is home to a playground and substantial playing fields commonly known as Duchy Fields, but officially referred to as Bolton Road Playing Fields. It’s also home to Barr Hill Junior Football Club.

Schools & Childcare

Duchy Road Caravan Site

Salix Homes manages Duchy Road Caravan site on behalf of Salford City Council. The site has recently been refurbished after successfully receiving a grant from The Homes and Communities Agency.

Kersal and Charlestown

Shopping, Leisure & Community

Both Kersal, Charlestown and Duchy are close to Salford Shopping City and Manchester Fort providing high street shopping and mainstream services to the wider community.

There are two main community centres in Kersal and Charlestown; St Sebastian’s and Lower Kersal Community Centre offering a wide range of services and activities for the local community including a job club, volunteering opportunities, child care facilities and after school clubs.
