Safeguarding

Making sure our tenants and neighbours are free from any harm.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting someone’s right to live in a safe environment, free from abuse, harm and neglect.

By working closely with our residents and partner organisations, such as Greater Manchester Police and Salford Council, we aim to safeguard the people living in our communities and help prevent them from experiencing abuse and neglect.

What is abuse and neglect?

Abuse is the violation of a someone’s human rights by other people.

It could be physical, like being hit, or it could be things like taking control over someone else’s money.

Neglect is not taking care of someone properly. People can also neglect themselves if they don’t have the experience or ability to meet their basic needs.

Abuse can take many forms and includes things like:

  • Physical, sexual or emotional abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Financial abuse
  • Neglect or self-neglect
  • Exposure to substance abuse
  • Modern-day slavery

Concerned about abuse?

If you or someone you know is being abused, we’re here to help.

Perhaps you have concerns about a neighbour, or someone living in your community, or perhaps you are being abused yourself and need some advice and support.

You can contact Salix Homes in confidence, and we will investigate your concerns or help you access the support you need.

This applies to adults, young people and children.

Reporting a concern

We encourage any Salix Homes resident, member of the local community, employee or contractor to report anything they consider to be a safeguarding concern.

You can speak to us confidentially, and we will respond to all concerns in line with our Safeguarding Policy. We’ll work closely with partner organisations and refer to other agencies as necessary.

If you think there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or a child, young person or adult, dial 999 and report it to police.

To discuss anything with us, email enquiries@salixhomes.co.uk. If you suspect a neighbour is suffering from domestic violence, report it to us through MySalix.
