Helping our tenants stay warm and well this winter

Salix Homes’ Neighbourhood Teams have been spreading some Christmas cheer amongst our elderly tenants this winter.

Every year we run our Winter Welfare campaign to ensure our older tenants are keeping warm and well in the cold weather.

We contact every tenant over the age of 70 and deliver winter warmer packs, which contain socks, hats, gloves and blankets, to any of our older residents who need one.

Resident Gladys Tracey was thrilled to receive her winter warmer pack during the run up to Christmas.

She said: “I really appreciate the visit from my neighbourhood officer and the winter warmer bag. This is a wonderful thing that Salix Homes does to support the older community at Christmas time.”

Now in its tenth year, the Winter Welfare initiative supports our older and vulnerable tenants to ensure they are all set for the winter months, their heating is working, and they know how to access support if they need it.

During the visits, officers also give advice on how to stay warm and healthy during cold periods, and ensure they are claiming the benefits they’re entitled to.

Jeanette Green, neighbourhood manager at Salix Homes, said: “The cold, winter months can be a very difficult and worrying time for some older people, some of whom don’t have any family and may be feeling lonely and isolated.

“A lot of older people can go for days and weeks without seeing anyone else, so it’s vitally important that they know that help and support is out there if they need it.

If you’re a Salix Homes tenant and feel you, or someone you know, could benefit from a winter welfare pack and a visit from the Neighbourhood Teams please call us on 0800 218 2000 or email: enquiries@salixhomes.org
