Salix Homes celebrates Salford Centenary with family fun day
Families enjoyed an action-packed afternoon at Ordsall Park, as Salix Homes marked Salford’s centenary year with a family fun day.
Despite some April showers, the rain didn’t dampen spirits as the community came together for the fun day on 15 April to enjoy a wide range of games, entertainment and activities.
There was fun for all the family with traditional games, including a penalty shoot-out challenge, coconut shy, snakes and ladders and hula hooping. Families also took part in sunflower planting to celebrate 100 years of Salford, creating a lasting reminder of the city’s centenary year. There was also free ice cream for the first 150 children, along with face painting.
Sport also played a big role in the celebrations, with a friendly five-a-side football match between Salix Homes colleagues and MacIntyre – an organisation which provides learning, support and care for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism.
Also in attendance was suicide prevention charity Jak’s World, who offered a warm welcome to visitors, providing free hugs as part of their ongoing work to support emotional wellbeing and raise awareness. Representatives from Groundwork along with our Sustainability Team were also on hand, engaging with residents and sharing advice on greener living and environmental initiatives.
Salix Homes hosted the afternoon to help bring people together and connect with customers – and it was the first event in our wider programme of activities planned throughout the year to mark the Salford centenary.
Salix Homes Chief Executive Liam Turner, who attended on the day, said: “It was fantastic to see so many families out enjoying the activities and celebrating such an important milestone for Salford. The centenary is about reflecting on our city’s proud history, but also looking ahead – and events like this really capture the strength, resilience and community spirit that defines Salford today.
“At Salix Homes, we’re proud to play our part in bringing people together, strengthening community bonds, and supporting events that celebrate our customers and neighbourhoods.”
April 21 will mark exactly 100 years since Salford was officially granted city status in 1926, and a series of cultural, civic and community activities are being planned to honour the milestone, led by Salford City Council.
