Tips to keep your home warm this winter

It’s been getting colder lately, and with the cost of living crisis, staying warm can be hard. However, we’ve pulled together some low-cost (and even free) tips to help you stay cosy through the winter.

Bleed your radiators to make sure they’re working properly. If your radiator has cold patches or makes gurgling sounds, it may need bleeding. Check out B&Q’s step-by-step guide for instructions.

Hang curtains to keep heat in. Windows can let in cold air and draughts, but curtains can help. Thicker, heavier curtains are better. You may be able to get these from our Furniture Recycling Scheme or local charity shops.

Use draught excluders – anything from spare blankets to sausage dog excluders – to cover the bottom of doorways and keep warmth in.

Get some blankets to snuggle up under while watching a Netflix series. They’ll keep you warm and cosy.

Invest in thermals and wear layers, which are better at keeping heat in than one thick layer.

Lastly, a hot water bottle is a great way to keep warm instantly and can be used throughout your home. Check out these tips for using hot water bottles safely.
