Remembering Salford artist Harold Riley
This week, we sadly mark the passing of Salford artist Harold Riley, remembered as one of the most accomplished artists and cultural figures from the city.
In 2014 Harold collaborated with Salix Homes to unveil a plaque on the childhood home of his late friend – renowned playwright Shelagh Delaney, who as a child lived in a semi-detached house on Duchy Road. Read about the commemoration in our past news article.
Harold grew up in Salford and went on to study at the Salford School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art in London. After completing his studies, he returned to Salford and began to establish himself as an artist.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Harold was also a philanthropist and a champion of social justice. He was actively involved in various charitable causes throughout his life, including efforts to promote education and healthcare in underprivileged communities.
