Winter Support – Your guide to staying warm, safe and well this winter
We’ve put together a simple Winter Support Guide to help you look after yourself and your home during the colder months. It includes tips on keeping warm, saving energy, staying safe and well, and knowing who to contact if you need support.
The guide is designed especially for customers and is free to use. You can read it online and you should have received your copy in the post by now too. The guide you received in the post included information on Awaab’s Law, Damp and Mould, and Cost of Living Support.
We hope you find it helpful and that it gives you a bit more peace of mind this winter.

Join the National Housing Federation’s Tenant Advisory Panel
Would you like to join the National Housing Federation’s group that helps give advice on housing for tenants?
The National Housing Federation (NHF) is looking for new members for its Tenant Advisory Panel (TAP). NHF are committed to welcoming applications from residents from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and circumstances, including disabled people or people with long-term health conditions, who want to help shape decisions that affect millions of people living in social housing across England. Past members have said that being on the panel has helped them learn new skills, meet new people, and make a positive difference.
If you want to know more about the roles and how to apply, check out the National Housing Federation’s website. Applications are open until 5 pm on Friday 30 January 2026.
Household Support Fund
You can now apply for round seven (part two) of the Household Support Fund, until Tuesday 31 March 2026.

E-bike and electric scooter safety
We’re reminding our customers about the dangers associated with e-bikes and scooters following a rise in e-bike-related fires across the region.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has launched its #ChargeSafe campaign to raise awareness of the risks linked to e-bikes, e-scooters, mobility scooters and their batteries. We’re proud to support this campaign and help share these important safety messages.
As part of this, we’re re-launching our own campaign to remind customers about the potential dangers and encourage safer use, charging and storage — helping to protect homes, families and communities.

Salix Homes retains grading from Regulator of Social Housing
We recently retained our grading from the Regulator of Social Housing.
The Government body, which regulates the social housing sector, has recently completed its annual stability check of our governance arrangements and financial viability in line with its regulatory framework.
Once again, we have been awarded the G1 rating for governance – the highest rating – and a V2 for financial viability. The Regulator also reconfirmed our C1 (consumer) grading, in recognition of the homes and services we provide for our customers, based on our full regulatory inspection last year.
The judgement means Salix Homes is fully compliant with the regulatory framework, and we continue to be well-managed, financially stable, and able to deliver high-quality homes and services to our customers.
Reminder: Join the fight against male suicide, become a Manbassador

Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 50* in the UK, and it’s time for us to come together to make a difference.
As a Manbassador, a business could play a vital role in promoting mental health awareness. We provide everything you need to get started, including:
- Free promotional materials
- Free training to help you have open conversations
- Publicity on Salix Homes channels
- Recognition for adding social value
If you or someone you know has a business in Salford and would like to join the Salford Manbassadors network to help create a supportive environment for men to talk about mental health, visit the ‘Become a Manbassador’ page on our website.

Boxing Day floods – 10 years on
Boxing Day 2025 marked 10 years since the floods which devastated hundreds of homes across Salford.
As households were enjoying the Christmas festivities, Salford was experiencing the heaviest rain in its history, causing the River Irwell to burst its banks.
Around 300 of our properties were devastated by flood water across the Spike Island and Riverside Estates in Lower Broughton.
A decade on from that fateful night, Salix Homes tenant Keri Muldoon, who is also part of our Customer Committee, has been reflecting on the tragedy.
Green fingered residents bring balconies to life

Balconies across Salford and Greater Manchester have been bursting into life thanks to the National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge. The challenge was a city-wide initiative encouraging residents to transform their high-rise spaces into miniature green havens.
Supported by Salix Homes, the project invited everyone from complete beginners to seasoned gardeners, to experiment with balcony and small-space gardening, and discover the wellbeing benefits of connecting with nature.
