Hive residents cook up a storm

Residents at The Hive have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

We organised a one-day cookery course for tenants at The Hive, which provides accommodation exclusively for young people aged between 18-25.

The session was hosted by Bounceback Foods – a community cookery school that teaches people how to make delicious, healthy and affordable meals.

The budding chefs gathered in The Hive’s communal kitchen to hone their culinary skills and rustled up a range of dishes including red lentil curry, Tunisian speciality Shakshouka, and cinnamon-infused poached pears.

Hive resident Olivia Corps said: “This course has made me far more confident about cooking chicken, with the Bounceback team giving me simple tips to ensure it is delicious and safe to eat every time. Overall, it was a really enjoyable day

Mick Walsh, neighbourhood manager at Salix Homes, said: “We’re really grateful to Bounceback for what turned out to be a great event. The food that our tenants produced was delicious, and just goes to prove that you can make healthy and tasty dishes without breaking the bank.”

It is hoped to run further sessions at The Hive in Kersal in the future.
