Salix Homes in the running for top housing award

We have been shortlisted in the Excellence in Co-Regulation category in the Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) Northern Awards 2014.

The national awards are open to social housing providers, tenants and contractors and recognise both individual and collaborative initiatives that have made a real difference to people’s lives and their wider communities.

Salix Homes is a pioneer of co-regulation in social housing and have been recognised for our commitment to working alongside tenants in Salford to deliver the best service possible.

Joe Willis, our chief executive, said: This is the fourth consecutive year we have been shortlisted in the TPAS awards which is a fantastic achievement.

Since Salix Homes launched in 2007 we have strived to place our customers at the heart of everything we do and ensured they are at the forefront of the way we deliver services, so to be recognised by TPAS for our efforts is a real honour.

Salix Homes is now poised to take tenant involvement to the next level and become one of the UK’s first ‘mutual’ housing organisations, owned by tenants and employees, if residents support plans for a proposed stock transfer.

Last year we were named by Salford Council as the chosen landlord to take ownership of the 8,500 council homes in Salford it currently manages in a stock transfer.

If tenants vote ‘yes’ to transfer, we look set to become one of the first employee co-owned mutual housing providers in the country, giving tenants greater control over the way housing services are provided.

Mr Willis added: Looking to the future, becoming a ‘mutual’ is the next natural step for Salix Homes, which has been at the forefront of creating opportunities for our tenants to influence how we do things for many years now. And as we embark on our journey into becoming a ‘mutual’, there will be even further opportunity for our customers and employees to work together for the benefit of the organisation and the wider community of Salford.

The TPAS Northern Awards ceremony is being held on 11 April at The Palace Hotel in Manchester. The winners will go forward to the prestigious national final, which will be held later in the year, where they will compete against the winners from Southern and Central England.
