Salix Homes turns eight

Today Salix Homes celebrates our eight-year anniversary.

On 23 March 2015, we launched as a stand-alone housing association after our tenants voted to transfer ownership of more than 8,000 homes from Salford Council to ourselves.

The move unlocked millions of pounds of funding, which we’ve invested into improving homes and communities across Salford.

Here are just some of our achievements since 2015:

  • Invested more than £210 million in our homes and communities
  • Channelled around £200,000 into local projects and initiatives through our Springboard community grant programme
  • Launched our new affordable home ownership brand Willo Homes
  • Built more than 270 new homes, with another 250 currently under construction
  • Completed new developments at The Hive, Alexander Gardens, Poets, Joan Lestor House and Artifex
  • Started on site at our Neighbourhood, Greenhaus and Wynt View developments
  • Launched our ground-breaking Customer Committee, transforming the way we engage with tenants
  • Transformed our digital services for customers and colleagues, launching our award-winning MySalix customer portal and becoming the first housing association in the UK to fully embrace the public cloud
  • Helped shape the future of building safety on a national level

Sue Sutton, Salix Homes Chief Executive, said: “When we started out on our journey back in 2015, we made a commitment to be about so much more than just providing homes – we wanted to deliver services to improve lives and enhance communities, as well as provide support to help our customers to live, grow and thrive. Eight years on, the world is a very different place, but our commitment remains the same.

“Our journey has not been without its challenges – from the Boxing Day floods of 2015, to the cladding crisis, the pandemic and the cost-of-living emergency we’re facing today.  But despite the challenges, we’ve seen eight years of strong progress and growth, strengthening our relationship with customers, improving homes and communities across Salford and expanding our housing stock.

“As we look to our future, there are of course opportunities and challenges ahead, but we’re confident we can continue to face these pro-actively and positively to ensure we remain in the strongest position to meet the demands of a modern world – for our customers, our communities and our colleagues.”
