Time running out for community cash

Time is running out for community groups in Salford to apply for a share of £35,000.

We are once again inviting applications for its ‘Your Salix, Your Say’ fund, which offers grants of up to £4,000 to help fund worthwhile community projects and initiatives in Salford.

But local groups wanting to grab their share of the cash need to act fast as the deadline for applications closes on Friday, May 15.

Jackie Crook, our community involvement and new initiatives manager, said: “Our ‘Your Salix, Your Say’ grant scheme has helped channel £157,000 into the Salford community and supported 75 local projects since it launched five years ago.

“The best thing about ‘Your Salix, Your Say’ is that it is ultimately the public who vote and decide where the money is spent and we are very proud of the projects it has enabled us to support over the years; from gardening clubs and residents associations to junior football clubs and social enterprises.

“I’d urge any community groups, local clubs or self-help organisations who are struggling for funding to apply for a ‘Your Salix, Your Say’ grant, but time is running out, so you’ll have to act fast.”

This year £3,000 has been allocated specifically for young people aged between 11 and 24 who are invited to submit bids of up to £500 to help fund projects or initiatives aimed at the younger generation.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 15 and the shortlist will be announced in June.

Decision Day, when each of the finalists will showcase their project before taking to the polls to vote which initiative they believe should get the money, takes place at St Sebastian’s Community Centre, Lower Kersal on Saturday, June 27.
