Funding boost to make homes greener and cheaper to run

Salix Homes has secured more than £364,000 grant funding to help improve the energy efficiency of homes across Salford.

The funding has been awarded through Wave 3 of the Greater Manchester Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund, managed by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), and will support retrofit improvements to 50 of our properties.

The grant will help us deliver a range of energy efficiency measures, including the installation of modern air source heat pumps – making homes warmer, greener, and more affordable to run.

This project will help cut carbon emissions and support Salix Homes’ wider sustainability ambitions to become a net zero organisation, while also providing real cost-of-living benefits for customers by reducing their energy bills.

Glenn Martin, Director of Investment, Development and Sustainability at Salix Homes, said: “This marks another step forward in our commitment to tackling climate change, while making homes more comfortable and affordable for our customers.

“We’re proud to be playing our part in the region’s retrofit challenge, and this latest round of funding will help us deliver vital improvements to dozens more homes in our communities.

“Retrofitting homes is one of the most effective ways to cut carbon emissions and reduce household bills, so we’re very grateful to the GMCA for their continued support. By working together, we can deliver lasting improvements for our customers and help build a greener, more sustainable future for Salford.”

The funding scheme provides financial support to social housing providers and local authorities to undertake energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures in their homes.

This latest funding success adds to Salix Homes’ growing track record in securing sustainability investment, with more than £5.7 million in external grant funding secured to date for energy efficiency and decarbonisation works for our housing stock across Salford.

The latest programme of energy efficiency improvement works is expected to begin in Autumn 2025 and customers will be contacted directly by our Investment Team.
