Salford homeless charity given new lease of life thanks to Salix Homes contractors

A community space which provides a lifeline for homeless and vulnerable people across Salford, has been given a much-needed makeover thanks to Salix Homes contractors – Diamond Decorators.

The Salford Loaves and Fishes charity in Pendleton has been brightened up with a fresh coat of paint as part of a social value project to give back to the community.

The team at Diamond Decorators, which is one of our newest contractors, donated their time, labour, and materials to redecorate both the charity’s Drop-in space and their Skills for Life centre – a fantastic facility where homeless and vulnerable people can develop digital skills and complete online training courses.

Jennifer-Anne Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Salford Loaves and Fishes, said: “We are reliant on sourcing funding to operate. We are dealing with our highest ever number of visitors, so we couldn’t prioritise finding the funding to paint the centre, even though it was desperately needed.

“Thanks to our relationship with Salix Homes, they connected us with Diamond Decorators, and a team came to paint our centres and offices. The difference it has made is amazing – the centre looks so fresh and welcoming. We can’t thank the team at Diamond Decorators enough, they were brilliant and even worked around our opening times, so it didn’t affect the delivery of our services.”

Salix Homes works closely with Salford Loaves and Fishes, and they have been a previous recipient of our Seed Fund programme, which provides funding to community projects and initiatives across Salford.

The generosity of Diamond Decorators didn’t stop there, as they’ve also been hard at work painting the communal room at our independent living scheme Muirhead Court in Salford.

The space now feels brighter, and much more welcoming. It’s a much-needed makeover that residents are already enjoying, transforming the area into a comfortable place where neighbours can relax and connect.

Warren Carlon, Director of Communities at Salix Homes, said: “We’re committed to working with contractors who share our values and are passionate about giving back to the communities we serve. These projects are a fantastic example of how this partnership approach can deliver real social value in our communities, making a positive difference for local people.”

Salford-based Diamond Decorators is a family run business with over 25 years of experience, specialising in commercial painting and decorating, particularly in the social housing sector.

A spokesperson at Diamond Decorators added: “We’re proud to have supported Salix Homes and Salford Loaves and Fishes, as part of our commitment to giving back and actively supporting our local communities.

“It was a pleasure to help make a real difference and play a small part in creating brighter and more welcoming environments for the people who use these spaces. Just by adding a fresh coat of paint, we can see it has made a big impact and meant a lot to those who needed it.”
